Vascular Pain

What is Vascular Pain?

Symptoms of Vascular Pain:

INTERMITTENT CLAUDICATION

Intermittent claudication, also known as vascular claudication, is a symptom that describes muscle pain on mild exertion (ache, cramp, numbness or sense of fatigue), classically in the calf muscle, which occurs during exercise, such as walking, and is relieved by a short period of rest.
Patient gets pain in legs while walking due to low blood supply to that muscle of Limb. Pain may be of burning, cramping which is relieved by rest.

REST Vascular Pain:

It is continuous burning pain of lower leg or feet due to Advanced Vascular Insufficiency. Aggravated by Elevating Limb & Relieved by down Position/Hanging down limb. In Advanced Stage, ulcer or gangrene may develop. More serious than Claudication is a symptom of PAD known as rest pain.

It occurs when blockages are so severe that muscles can’t get enough oxygen when they’re at rest. Foot pain is most common. At first, it’s most troublesome when the leg is elevated, particularly in bed at night.

RAYNAUD’S PHENOMENON

Raynaud’s phenomenon is a condition resulting in discoloration of the fingers and/or the toes after exposure to changes in temperature (cold or hot) or emotional events. Skin discoloration occurs because an abnormal spasm of the blood vessels causes a diminished blood supply to the local tissues.

Pain in distal parts of extremities, often accompanied by white discoloration of the extremities. At later stage ,Discoloration darkens & ulcer may develop.

Causes:

  1. Peripheral Vascular Disease
  2. Buerger Disease
  3. Diabetic Foot Gangrene
  4. Raynaud’S Disease
  5. Raynaud’S Phenomenon
